Contractor: Consortium AVAX S.A. – MYTILINEOS S.A.

 

Project Scope: design, financing, construction and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) services of the inner ring road (Flyover) in Thessaloniki.

 

Contract duration: The total duration of the Partnership Agreement has been set at 30 years, of which the first four relate to the construction period, and the remaining 26 relate to the period of operation & maintenance services of the project.

 

Flyover Project

It is an aerial highway without intermediate junctions 4 km long above the current eastern ring road which will also be widened, acquire new junctions and technical elements and be modernized to its total length of 13 km. During the four-year construction period of the project, which is widely known as the "Flyover", in addition to the eastern regional highway, operations will be carried out simultaneously in the western regional highway of Thessaloniki. As a result, the citizens will enjoy a modern, safe regional highway that is expected to provide substantial solutions to the traffic issue of Thessaloniki, as it is predicted that it will relieve the existing ring road in three ways:

  • Increase in traffic capacity
  • pectacular improvement in road safety
  • Construction with respect for the environment and unification of the city with the green lung of Kedrinos Lofos.

Basic Characteristics of the Construction Project

  • 13 kilometers of project
  • 9 uneven nodes
  • 4 kilometers of continuous expressway bridge (Flyover)
  • 8 new bridges
  • 3 new tunnels
  • 20,000 total vehicle
  • capacity/hour in both directions
  • Modernization and optimization of infrastructure and facilities of the existing network, as well as targeted interventions in the side road network.

It is an elevated expressway with no intermediate junctions, above the current eastern ring road, which will also be widened and modernised in its overall length, delivering the citizens of the city a modern, safe ring road.
